New post Windows 7

Anyone have it or know anything about it? I have Vista 64 right now and I'm finally getting it where it's working halfway decent without a lot of major hassles. I'm dreading the thought that I may have to upgrade since I spent the extra money not even a year ago for Vista. Any views about this?

If Vista 64 is working for you, stick with it. I never upgrade a Windows computer. Microsoft gets enough money from the pre-installed operating systems on new PC's.

OK, I never have either..but mostly because my computers get outdated before their OS does but I was worried this time since I feel like I'm ahead of the hardware game (for once) I'm sure it's just wishful thinking..hehe

I really love Vista. It's a great operating system. The negative hype was a load of crap. Any problems with it were due to user idiocy or trying to run it on old hardware. With a mind open to new ideas and a computer that was built in 2006 or subsequent, Vista is a great OS to have.

That said, Windows 7 blows Vista away. It is an extremely solid operating system, and it will even run well on older hardware. I highly recommend it. And 64-bit all the way!

I do have to agree with Stab though – never upgrade a Windows OS. Always do a fresh install, including a quick format of the hard drive. Backup your files first!

I installed Win7 64bit on a freshly built machine. I'd been running Xp SP2/3 for about 8 years and skipped Vista entirely. Win7 so far has been really stable, and it has good compatibility with hardware and software. I'm actually liking it a lot more than I did XP, though learning a new system is annoying.

If you're running Vista with no problems, there's no real need to upgrade. But if you do, you can get the OEM Win7 64 from Newegg for about 130 or 150. The retail version costs more because you're paying for Micro$oft's support. I can troubleshoot and fix my own machine, so the OEM is a way better investment for me.

I have heard many reviews about Window 7 so I have decided that I will move up to Win 7 64 bit when I buy a new laptop later this year. Windows 7 is awesome except the Windows Audio Feature that was crippled since Vista. Windows 7 has been as much marketing work as programming, despite the fact that it's almost identical to Vista.
